We all have centralized accounts for our everyday use. If you are thinking what is a centralized account, don't fret. A centralized account is your cell phone, email address, Twitter and/or Facebook account. Your centralized address can be frozen or deleted over time. You don't technically own it. The platform can suspend use at any time for any reason.
With a DAS account, anyone can create it anonymously and once created, it cannot be destroyed. You are in full control of your DAS account; no 3rd parties. Now that you understand the difference, you should step your game up and create a decentralized or DAS account. You can use your DAS account as a digital currency collection account or as an account to access general Internet Services.
If you are like me, when you send funds to Cryptocurrency addresses, it can be very alarming. You worry about the address (they all look the same) and you double and triple check before you send funds. You can still get hosed as in the case of the person that spent years hunting down two high school kids in Europe who hijacked all his bitcoin.
With a DAS account which is decentralized, you can register without any permissions and have full control over the account. It is personalized and unique and it is compatible with all public chains. All DAS accounts end in .bit. It also allows you to accept funds from a variety of networks.
It is so much easier to send funds to Alice.bit than a long alphanumeric address.
Add your social accounts, email, profile preferences, and any other data you want to make public to your DAS account.
In addition, using your .bit address can be a one-stop shop to all of your personal information.
And the best part is.......
Drumroll................
DAS is built on Nervos CKB (whoop whoop). You do not need a CKB wallet or a CKB address or pay in CKB for using it.
Let's walk through getting a .bit account.
Browse to the following website DAS - Cross-chain decentralized account.
Select Register | Manage. Select the appropriate Registrar. In this tutorial, we selected DAS.
Input the name you prefer.
Choose your .bit name. Currently you can create any .bit name 10 characters or above.
When you find a name, click Register.
Next choose your terms and pay the fees.
Click Register and pay via CKB (Portal Wallet) or ETH. I chose to pay with CKB. Who wants to pay gas fees (no brainer)?
Click Pay and Sign the Transaction.
Go get a cup of coffee and let your new .bit account register.
Congratulations. You just registered your .bit name.
I can now view my account by going to my custom registered .bit address.
Managing TheCryptoCat.bit
You can manage your .bit address from a single portal as shown below
You can manage owner and manager rights (shown below).
For example, in the future if support for PW becomes available with IMKEY, you can transfer ownership to your new address.
Currently support only includes the following:
Metamask
Tronlink
WalletConnect
Let's now add my Twitter Account to TheCryptoCat.bit. Click Manage | Add New Record.
Select Profile.
Enter the appropriate information and Click Save and Sign the Transaction.
After you Sign the Transaction in Metamask, it takes about 5 minutes to confirm.
You can continue to add other accounts such as Facebook, Github, Telegram, Linkedin etc. Now my Profile looks more built out.
Ideally, instead of using a password, I can use TheCryptoCat.bit address to login by changing the authentication model in the above accounts to use the private key associated with my DAS account.
You can continue to build this out to your liking under the different sections:
NFT's
Crypto Addresses
Profile
Custom
There is so much to learn after creating your first .bit address. Here are some links to learn:
